Reflection of week 7 online lecture

Before studying on the week 7 lecture, I did not imagine shadow is that important compare with the construction of buildings. Sometimes it could be ignored or represents by using only simple lines or shapes instead, however shadow play a big role in our daily life start at the beginning same on architecture.

In the first bit of the lecture where places an article called “Analogy of the cave”, it describes interestingly about how shadow was understand by unknowledge human beings at thousands years ago. Then it move up to a technique which works on shadow called Camera Obscure. It was attributed by Alhazan. The main idea of this technique is briefly introduced in his quotation and it was very easy to understand. On the third piece “The invention of drawing”, it tells us how our ancestry draw figures of human body by tracing the outline of their own body shadow on walls. After that, lecture is still keep focusing on shadow according by a set of books. They are “The shadow as threshold”, “The disconnected shadow”, “The shadow as refuge”, “The shadow as solid”, and “The shadow as repetition”.
I select this pair of pictures which are quit relate to my UT model. Actually they are taken from the same place, but under the different shadow shape. One is obviously brighter and the other is much darker. As we see, it unconsciously changes the construction of the building and also our mood. How important the shadow is!
